Our Story
About The Ranch
In 2017, Matt and Valorie Loessin bought the property that is now the Vara Ranch headquarters as a place for our family to enjoy. As owners of a large national surveying and engineering firm, we couldn’t think of a better name for the ranch than the original survey measurement “Vara,” which was used in the original layout of Texas. Vara Ranch was initially started as an exotic breeding ranch and family home to have some fun. However our family’s lifelong love of the outdoors and hunting led to the creation, and explosive growth, of a full breeding facility and hunting operation.
Meet The Vara Ranch Team
Trey Staff
Ranch Manager
Trey’s passion for the outdoors is palpable, which makes him the ideal Ranch Manager. He has twelve years of experience in the deer industry, five of which are at Vara Ranch. With Trey’s involvement in Vara from the start, he feels immense pride to see how far it has come. Trey was raised that if you want something, you have to work for it. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s in Animal Science. His interests include hunting, fishing, golf, woodworking, and DIY construction. It is no surprise that his favorite animal is a Whitetail Deer. Trey and his wife have a son, daughter, dog, and any animal their son finds outside. Trey brings his love of the outdoors home to his family. It would be his favorite day if he could spend time in the deer pen with his son, followed by a cold Coors Light and fried deer steak on the back porch with his family.
Cullen Loessin
Hunting Guide
A family tradition, he’s been hunting with his dad in the Texas outdoors since he was six years old. Cullen has harvested over 20 different species native to countries all around the world. He is an expert guide and has an extensive knowledge of the Vara Ranch hunting operation. Cullen’s favorite part about guiding is meeting new clients and helping them accomplish a dream that some have had for decades. He enjoys hunting fishing, golfing, and hanging out with family and friends. Cullen’s numerous past hunting experiences and passion for the outdoors adds great value to the Vara Ranch team.
Kurt Stern
Hunting Guide
Kurt is a lifelong outdoorsman and has been hunting since the young age of six years old. He gives all the credit to his late father for his love of the outdoors where they made countless memories on many hunting trips together. Kurt has harvested whitetail in deep south Texas, mountain lion in New Mexico, mule deer in Nebraska, and waterfowl all over. He enjoys hunting, fishing, golf and woodworking. Kurt’s favorite part about guiding is seeing the excitement on his hunters faces when they shoot the animal they are after. With passion, wisdom, and finely honed skills, he has expertly guided clients from all over the country at Vara Ranch.
Carraghan Charlton
Marketing & Hunt Coordinator
Carraghan was born & raised in central Illinois where she grew up enjoying countless memories of Illinois Whitetail deer hunting and crappie fishing with her dad. She is a graduate of Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational and Leadership Communications.
Prior to Vara Ranch, Carraghan worked in marketing and sales in the outdoor industry. In her free time, you can find Carraghan boating, fishing or spending time with family & friends outdoors. Carraghan enjoys helping Vara Ranch grow its brand through new marketing campaigns, managing social media accounts, and networking opportunities.
